The hidden glen of Glenlivet was a haven for illicit whisky smugglers and distillers throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. The most infamous of these was Robbie McPherson who was based at Folds of Corriehabbie in neighbouring Glenrinnes. Comfortably seated in one of our eight wheel drive Argocats we will travel to Peat Reek Bothy to view a reproduction Pot Still, other Highland artefacts, and a copy of Robbie McPherson‘s last will and testament. We then join the Robbie McPherson Whisky Smugglers Trail to the summit of Carn Ghrantaich giving us a 360 degree panoramic view of an area where numerous illicit stills were sited years ago.
On our descent from Carn Ghrantaich over Blairfindy Moor we pass and visit the site of the original Glenlivet Distillery the first licensed distillery in Scotland founded by George Smith in 1824.
Pick up point is at Blairfindy Crown Estate Car Park, Glenlivet. MR GRNJ 190285. Directions provided on booking. Warm clothing and stout footwear should be worn, binoculars and spotting scope supplied.
